Kate Palermo Pike

Director / Owner

Born in Mississauga, Ontario, Kate Palermo discovered her passion for dance at the age of three. She dedicated countless hours to training in multiple styles, including jazz, tap, ballet, contemporary, lyrical, acrobatics, hip hop, and modern dance. Throughout her childhood and teenage years, Kate competed at an elite level and attended a prestigious performing arts high school from 2008 to 2012. In her graduating year, Kate underwent corrective surgery for a severe case of scoliosis, which unfortunately ended her aspirations of a professional performing career. Undeterred, she shifted her focus to academics and enrolled in Sheridan College’s Business & Marketing program. While at Sheridan, she remained deeply involved in the dance industry, touring with CanDance Dance Competition as a tabulator and teaching dance several nights a week at multiple studios. It was during this time that she met her future business partner, Becky. As their professional relationship grew, Kate played a pivotal role in advancing Becky’s children from recreational to competitive dance. In the summer of 2016, an exciting opportunity arose, leading to in-depth discussions about studio ownership. After careful planning and evaluation, Kate and Becky co-founded Dance District in August 2016. Since opening Dance District, Kate has continually sought opportunities to expand her expertise and benefit her students. In 2019, she completed the Acrobatic Arts Teachers Training course. She has also become a sought-after adjudicator, judging competitions across Canada and sharing her knowledge, passion, and experience with the next generation of dancers. Kate credits much of her success to her education at Sheridan College, which equipped her with the marketing and social media skills that have been instrumental in growing Dance District’s presence in the Oakville community. The synergy between Becky’s business acumen and Kate’s dance expertise and marketing proficiency has propelled Dance District to great success, earning the title of Oakville’s Top Choice Dance Studio from 2019 to 2025. Additionally, Kate has been recognized at numerous competitive events for her choreography. She dedicates significant time to creating routines that are not only technically challenging but also aesthetically pleasing, featuring intricate patterning and creative musicality. Kate is especially known for crafting age-appropriate routines that push technical boundaries. With an unwavering commitment to dance education, Kate looks forward to continuing her career and inspiring dancers for years to come.

Becky Collins

Director / Owner

Becky, a lifelong Oakville resident, began dancing at the age of three, and her love for dance has been a constant throughout her life. She competed in dance throughout elementary and high school, and later danced professionally at several resorts in the Caribbean. After returning to Oakville, Becky decided to pursue a career in business, earning a degree in Accounting. She is also a proud mother to two daughters, Molly and Tessa, and a stepmom to Jacob and Devon. As she watched her daughters' passion for dance flourish at a young age, Becky realized she wanted to be a part of fostering that same love for dance in children. Combining her business acumen with her lifelong dedication to dance, Becky was inspired to open Dance District with Kate, where she could help cultivate the next generation of dancers. Opening Dance District has been one of Becky's most fulfilling achievements. It has allowed her to merge her lifelong passion for dance with her business skills, creating a space where children and adults alike can explore and grow through movement. Becky and Kate’s dedication to nurturing talent and fostering a love for dance has been the driving force behind the studio’s success. Through Dance District, Becky and Kate have been able to inspire confidence, creativity, and discipline in their students while creating a supportive community for dancers of all ages. It has been an honour to be a part of so many children lives over the years, it is something Becky will never take for granted.

WHAT OUR CLIENTS SAY

Logo - website photo.png

"Choosing Dance District for my daughter’s competitive dance team was one of the best decisions we've made. From the moment we walked through the doors, we felt like part of a family. The environment is incredibly welcoming, and it’s clear that the owners and teachers genuinely care about each dancer, not just their progress, but their well-being too.

The instructors are not only talented and experienced, but they also go above and beyond to support, encourage, and inspire. They’ve helped my daughter grow tremendously, both as a dancer and as a confident young person. The positive, team-oriented atmosphere makes it a place she’s always excited to go to, her best friends are at Dance District, and as a parent, that means everything.

Dance District isn’t just a dance studio, it’s a community, and we’re so grateful to be a part of it."

Caitlin Norton

"We all want our kids to have a place where they can grow, feel supported and make lifelong friendships. Dance District is that place. To see and hear the encouragement, love and support the dancers give each other is what it's all about. The friendships my daughter has made at dance will continue long after she graduates. Kate and Becky encourage the older dancers to mentor the younger ones through their big sister/little sister initiative. The close bond my daughter has with her "little sister" is unbreakable. Kate and Becky, and their teachers, have created a community, and Dance District is a studio that feels like family.

When my daughter graduates next year, she'll have been with Dance District for 10 years. Thank you Kate, Becky, the teachers, and students (big and small) for being such a positive part of her journey."

Cheryl Vallendar

"We can’t say enough good things about our daughter’s dance studio, Dance District.. From the moment she joined, it’s been an incredibly positive and inspiring environment. The teachers are passionate, professional, and truly care about helping each dancer grow—not just in technique, but in confidence and character. Our daughter has gained so much more than just dance skills; she’s found lifelong friendships, role models, and a place where she truly belongs. Dance has also taught her the value of hard work and perseverance—lessons that reach far beyond the studio. It’s more than just dance—it’s a place where kids thrive and memories are made!"

Christine Senra

"We have been with Dance District Inc. from day one! We knew Kate and Becky from the previous studio we danced at and when that studio closed, we were thrilled to follow Kate and Becky into their new venture. The venture started out small, but in the last nine years they have grown Dance District into a thriving studio with an amazing track record! The staff are amazing, and combine teaching great technique in all the disciplines with being firm and at the same time warm and always encouraging. The facility has grown along with the studio size, and is a great physical space to call your dancer's second home, with homework tables and a kitchen area. One of my favourite things about Dance District is the big sister/little sibling program they began several years ago. Both of my kids benefited greatly from this program as it pairs students up, and gives the younger child an older mentor and friend who is there to cheer them on and look out for them.  The older child gets a chance to hone their leadership skills and empathy and support for their little throughout the competitive season and beyond!

I love everything about this studio; from the communication to parents, community building activities like Santa Claus Parade and Winter Disco, and their unwavering support for all their students! It is definitely our second family *- so much so that when my older daughter graduated, she returned a couple years later to begin as a junior teacher! She now teaches the precompetitive kids and does extra choreography. Even though at the end of this year I will no longer have any kids of my own dancing, we will always consider this studio our family and they will have our life long support!"

Kim Ramsahoye

"We absolutely love Dance District! The teachers are incredibly talented, professional, and caring. They treat each dancer with respect and love, creating a nurturing environment where everyone feels valued. Although we are new to the studio, my daughters have been welcomed with open arms and are thriving. They are receiving high-quality level of training, building strong friendships, and their growth, confidence, and advancement in their dance technique in a short time has been incredible! We love DD and would highly recommend it!"

Jennifer Beaumont

"My daughter Milayna has been dancing with DD for over 7 years, currently on the Inter Competitive Team, and I couldn’t be more grateful for the role this studio has played in her life. DD’s commitment to shaping her not only into a beautiful and confident dancer, but also into a strong, compassionate leader, has truly exceeded all expectations.

DD is so much more than just a place where Milayna dances, it’s her second home. The teachers, her teammates, and the entire community have become like a second family to her. As a parent, knowing she’s surrounded by such support, encouragement, and care means everything.

I’ve always felt confident and safe leaving her in the hands of the amazing staff. Their communication with parents has consistently been top-notch, which reflects the professionalism and heart they pour into everything they do.

We are so proud to be part of the DD family! “

Amyee Ciprovski

"Moving to Dance District was the best decision we could have made for our daughters.  Becky and Kate and the rest of the incredible DD staff and choreographers made the transition so smooth for the girls.  Dance District has challenged my girls to improve their skills in the areas of technique and performance.  We have seen their confidence and love of dance really grow and shine through since we joined last year. The thing we love the most about DD is that the team work is cherished and valued.  The kids on each team support each other and push each other to be better dancers they can be.  The choreography is fresh, exciting and challenges the kids to push themselves to new heights.  When the team wins, everyone wins and that makes every child walk away from a season feeling a sense of accomplishment and enjoyment. In a short period of time, the girls have made new friends and found a group of supportive teachers that will continue to care, support and push them to achieve their best. We feel lucky to be a part of this incredible dance studio and are excited to see what new opportunities arise for our girls in the years to come."

Kelly Hickey

"When I think of Dance District, I think family.  We’ve been there since the beginning and I couldn’t be more happy to have Dance District as part of our lives. Kate and Becky are incredible owners, they’re welcoming and encouraging of all those who come through the doors. The teachers come with extensive amount of talent and their passion to teach is evident. So much so that my daughter came back for a victory lap year, she wasn’t ready to leave the place she calls her second home.

This is however our final year, and as it sadly comes to a close, it is certainly not the end, Dance District isn’t just a dance studio it’s a place where your child will grow as a person, where they will met lifelong friends, where they will find support when times are rough, it’s not only about dance, it about building self esteem, self confidence, and helping to shape them into the adults they will become.

Dance District is and will always be a part of our lives because they’re a part of our family."

Karen Armstrong

"We have had an absolutely stellar experience with Dance District so far. Our daughter has been a part of two other studios, and so we therefore have a great basis for comparison. It all starts with organization, management and communication. Dance District’s owners/managers are immaculate communicators. Every step of the way, we have absolutely no ambiguity or concerns regarding classes, competitions, fee structure, etc. It is very refreshing to receive lucid, concise emails regularly, so that there are no surprises. In terms of teachers and instruction, we have been blown away at how well DD has created a constructive and empathetic environment to push our daughter to the next  level, both with respect to her solo as well as the absolutely mind-blowing group dances. We’ve never seen full line items as complex and intricate as these in our 14 years of being dance parents! And finally (and perhaps most importantly), the community. Our daughter was new this year, and everyone from her fellow dancers to dance parents to the teachers to the owners have made her (and us) feel completely comfortable, welcome, and part of the fabric of this dance community. This has been refreshing and unbelievably valuable to us. We intend to continue with Dance District for our daughter going forward into her senior high school years, and all of the above is a testament to why we are on board!  Bravo to the owners, management, teachers, dancers and dance parents for creating such a wonderful dance environment for personal growth, teamwork, discipline, joy and energy!"
